Is There THC in Hemp?
Hemp and marijuana share the same signature leaf shape, and if you set one of each plant beside the other, they would look quite similar overall. But there are few distinctions and specifically, different uses for each – so you may be wondering, is there THC in hemp, or only in marijuana?
Marijuana is legally classified as a cannabis plant containing upwards of 0.3% or more THC, while hemp plants are those that contain 0.3% or less THC. This means that hemp doesn't fall under the same legislation as marijuana, and they have different uses as a result. However, the cannabinoid CBD can be found in both plants, so you'll encounter products with CBD that could have been derived from either one.
More on Hemp
You may have heard or even assumed that hemp and marijuana are different plants altogether, and while false, it is a common misconception. Cannabis is dioecious meaning that its reproductive capabilities are split into male and female plants. Both will produce Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) but hemp plants don't produce enough to provide the psychoactive effects that marijuana plants do.
Aside from extracting CBD, there are numerous other ways to use hemp that have been around for over 10,000 years. Various paper products, fabrics, rope, fuel, building materials, and more come from hemp and have made it a very versatile commodity.
